ATERNO is a multidisciplinary artistic collective founded in 2022 by innovative choreographer César Brodermann.

It emerged from the need to create bridges between different artistic disciplines, using the body as the primary engine to reimagine a space where boundaries are not obstacles, but opportunities for coexistence, creation, and collaboration.

They are recipients of the 2023 Guillermo Arriaga National Dance Award, the FONCA Grant Award, and the EFI ARTES Fiscal Incentive to create and produce their new large-scale works Regreso and Traslado Permanente. Their works have been presented at various national and international festivals such as Festival Lila López, Festival José Limón, and Escena Movida Arica, among others.

ATERNO’s objective is to move mountains through the body. We seek to challenge any logical structure within dance, developing methods that do not have a defined endpoint, but rather an infinite and constant reverberation that extends from the individual to the collective. ATERNO draws inspiration from expansion, openness, and infinity. It was born from the desire to foster encounters of dialogue and embodied knowledge through multidisciplinary art.

Our purpose is to transcend limits through movement, challenging convention and exploring new forms of artistic expression.

Originally from Mexico City, César Brodermann is a multidisciplinary artist, contemporary dancer, choreographer, photographer, artistic director, and founder of ATERNO. His work combines movement, performance, photography, and film, and investigates the limitless potential of the human being and their connection to the earth. The search for freedom and identity, distance, and the notion of the self are ideas that César continuously explores through artistic practices he has discovered and integrates into his daily life.

From 2014 to 2018, César lived in New York, where he graduated with honors from the Certificate Program in Contemporary and Classical Dance at Peridance Capezio Center. During his time in New York City, he worked with a variety of artists and companies, including Gallim Dance under Andrea Miller.

From 2018 to 2022, he lived in Tel Aviv and worked (as the first Mexican) with one of the most internationally recognized dance companies, Batsheva Dance Company – The Batsheva Ensemble, where he performed repertoire by Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, Noa Zuk, and Bobbi Jene & Or Schraiber. Brodermann developed five creative processes within the Batsheva Dancers Create program. César is the only Mexican certified teacher of GAGA (the movement language created by Ohad Naharin).

His choreographic work has been presented at international festivals such as Festival Lila López (San Luis Potosí), FIDCDMX (Mexico City), INSITU Dance Festival (New York), and New Blue Dance Festival (Toronto). His piece Borderline was presented at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv.

The piece how to climb a mountain, in collaboration with Guy Davidson with live music by Ariel Meriash, is his longest durational performance to date (8 hours); it was presented at CCA in Tel Aviv, Israel.

In 2023, he was awarded the FONCA Program for the Promotion of Cultural Projects and Co-Investments for his multidisciplinary stage proposal Ningún lugar adonde ir. He won the 2023 Guillermo Arriaga National Dance Award for his multidisciplinary stage proposal El concreto es eterno, created in collaboration with Santiago Sánchez.

In August 2024, he presented Traslado Permanente, recipient of the 2023 EFI ARTES Fiscal Incentive, which premiered at the MUAC Esplanade in collaboration with DANZA UNAM. His most recent large-scale creation, Regreso, received the 2024 EFI ARTES Fiscal Incentive and premiered at Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in July 2025.

He currently resides in Mexico City, continuously creating and presenting his work internationally, building bridges for others to cross and move beyond limits and borders.
