Post-show discussion

COCO is a Panamanian contemporary dance company that develops an ongoing platform for artistic training, creation, and performance, with a strong focus on arts education and social impact.

Its works have represented Panama at international festivals in New York, Belgium, Holland, and Spain. The company has received support from Iberescena, BID Lab, and Panama’s Ministry of Culture, in addition to receiving multiple Premios Escena awards.

Since 2025, COCO has carried out its activities at Ciudad de las Artes through an invitation from the Ministry of Culture, further consolidating its presence within Panama’s contemporary dance landscape.

Through creation, education, and artistic exchange, COCO continues to foster spaces where contemporary dance critically engages with social realities while remaining accessible to diverse audiences.

Gris

Gris (Grey) emerges from the longing to recover what is disappearing: grey zones where dialogue, ambiguity, and coexistence can still unfold. In a world shaped by algorithms and polarized belief systems, the work searches for spaces capable of resisting certainty and reopening the possibility of meeting one another in the in-between.

The piece exposes the invisible choreographies of the digital world—the ways systems shape emotion, and pull us toward reaction rather than reflection. Through movement, Gris (Grey) proposes a form of resistance: a reconnection with the body’s capacity to feel, listen, and sustain contradiction.

The performers navigate shifting emotional landscapes where tension, fragility, proximity, and disconnection coexist. Bodies collide, hesitate, support, and drift apart, reflecting the complexity of contemporary human interaction in increasingly fragmented social environments.

Ultimately, Gris (Grey) is an act of proximity—an attempt to move once again toward complexity, nuance, and the fragile art of coexistence.
