MiCOMPAÑÍA | “Infinito”
About the piece
This piece is a journey, an infinite journey. A journey of looking to know more about oneself. A path that cannot be followed without knowing more about the past. Discovering oneself through family and ancestors. Our memories, secrets, experiences, conflicts, silences… and those we inherit from the beings that make up our family tree.
Generation after generation. Information that nests in our body.
What to do with it? An infinite journey to liberation.
About the company
Susana Pous is the director and choreographer of MiCOMPAÑIA, a contemporary dance group in Havana, Cuba. She was born in 1971 in Barcelona, where she studied dance and, at the same time, acting and directing at the Center for Cinematographic Studies of Catalonia. She later completed her training in New York at the Martha Graham Center and DanSpace and participated in the American Dance Festival in Durham. She was an active dancer and artistic assistant in the companies Satsumas (dir. Mercé Boronat), Pepe Hevia Dance Company, Tránsit (dir. María Rovira). In 1998 she settled in Havana. For almost 20 years, she promoted her work within the company DanzAbierta, first as a dancer and teacher and then as a choreographer and director, consolidating her career with the pieces “MalSon,” “¿Qué se puede esperar cuando se está esperando?,” “Showroom” and “Welcome.” Her work highlights the exchange with Cuban contemporary visual artists and musicians. Susana has established herself as one of the most important voices in the performing arts in Cuba, not only for the innovation and level she has given to the island’s dance creation, but also for her profound use of cultural memory in the choreographic process. She has received national and international awards for her work, and has been favored by specialized critics. Winner of the Unique Biennial Dance Award in the Caribbean awarded by the French Institute.
