TOBIAS PIERO DOHM (GERMANY) | RAUM · ZEIT

About the piece

Can we resist the hurry of our always spinning globe?

A constellation of white spheres rotates, hangs, and rolls, floating freely like planetary systems in the cosmos. Sand forms fleeting comet trails, traces and landscapes. In RAUM · ZEIT, Tobias Piero Dohm explores the expressive potential of bodies and objects in interaction with materialities. Deconstructed juggling, performance, and installation combine with live sound design to make the invisible dynamics of temporal and spatial relationships tangible. A meditative search for balance in the midst of a space full of movement. Why the hurry in our existence? Are we perhaps just grains of sand drifting in the vastness of “raum” (space) and “zeit” (time)? Visually impressive, ephemeral visual worlds and moving landscapes unfold, accompanied by the sounds of modular synthesisers. They open up abstract associative spaces for viewers and invite them to consider the interaction between bodies, objects and materials from new perspectives.

About the company

With his interdisciplinary approach, Tobias Piero Dohm creates performative spaces that make the invisible visible. As an artist in the field of contemporary circus, dance and visual arts, he  explores profound connections between man, nature, and time. In his performances, he combines elements of contemporary juggling, object manipulation, dance, and installation to explore the expressive potential of bodies and objects in interaction with materialities. His works are characterised by the use of natural resources such as sand to create ephemeral and visual worlds. These worlds reflect an intimate and universal dynamic of temporal and spatial relationships, inviting the audience to reconsider their own connection to space and time.

Tobias’ artistic practice has been supported by residency programmes such as Chamäleon Berlin, schloss bröllin e.V., Le Château de Monthelon and Cirko Helsinki. He has received funding and scholarships from the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the Landesverband Freie Darstellende Künste NRW and the Goethe Institutes in Munich and Finland, among others. His artistic career includes training programmes at the École Cirque Baltazar in Montpellier, the German Sport

University Cologne (M.Sc.) and the Stockholm University of the Arts, among others. He received formative impulses through workshops with international greats such as Stefan Sing, Ben Richter, and Guillaume Martinet. As a performer in the ensemble Critical-Mess (Stefan Sing), Tobias is a co-creator of internationally touring pieces such as ‘Dodai’ and ‘Superorganism’, which are known for their innovative fusion of juggling and contemporary dance choreography. With his work, Tobias Piero Dohm invites the audience to experience the fragile connection between man, nature, and time in a sensual and transformative way.
