Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart is a dynamic ensemble of 16 highly individual and versatile dancers directed by dancer, choreographer, and musician Eric Gauthier. Founded in 2007, the company rapidly established itself as a major force within the German and international dance landscape.

Its repertoire includes works by renowned choreographers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Sharon Eyal, Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Sasha Waltz, William Forsythe, Marcos Morau, and Hofesh Shechter, among many others.

Beyond its performances at Theaterhaus Stuttgart, the company tours extensively to major international dance centers including New York, Toronto, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Venice, Montréal, Berlin, Chicago, and Monaco.

Gauthier Dance was recognized as the “German Highlight” in tanz magazine’s 2022 yearbook and named “Company of the Season” in the tanznetz critics’ survey for the 2024/25 season.


Akram Kahn — TURNING OF BONES


 A seismograph of the soul: there is a reason why Akram Khan is considered one of the defining choreographic voices of our time. Few artists possess such a profound sensitivity to the human psyche or such an ability to reveal its hidden depths. What distinguishes Khan’s work is his capacity to situate dance within urgent historical, political, and emotional contexts.

Whether addressing the First World War in XENOS, the Epic of Gilgamesh in Outwitting the Devil, or ecological collapse in Jungle Book Reimagined, Khan consistently uses movement as a vehicle for collective reflection.

With Turning of Bones, his first collaboration with Gauthier Dance, Khan revisits fragments of his own choreographic legacy. The title references Famadihana, a Malagasy ritual of remembrance in which ancestral remains are ceremonially exhumed, carried, and danced with as a way of reconnecting with heritage and memory.

The piece draws material from several of Khan’s iconic works, including Vertical Road, iTMOi (In the Mind of Igor), DESH, Mud of Sorrow, and Jungle Book Reimagined. These elements are reimagined and woven into a new emotional and narrative structure centered on two lovers confronted with sacrifice, memory, and loss.

Accompanied by Aditya Prakash’s evocative musical composition, Turning of Bones becomes both a ritual of remembrance and a meditation on the cycles of history, violence, and human fragility.
