KOMOCO

KOMOCO was founded in 2022 by choreographer Sofia Nappi and producer Adriano Popolo Rubbio. Based in Italy and internationally active, the company quickly gained recognition for its distinctive choreographic language, combining virtuosic physicality, theatrical sensitivity, and emotional immediacy.

Sofia Nappi’s work draws from her background in contemporary dance, Gaga movement language, and theatrical research, creating pieces that move fluidly between irony, intimacy, and raw emotional intensity. Her creations often investigate human relationships, memory, transformation, and the fragile balance between individuality and collectivity.

KOMOCO’s productions have been presented internationally at festivals and venues across Europe, North America, and Asia. The company continues to establish itself as one of the most promising voices of the new European contemporary dance scene.

The Fridas

Inspired by the iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, and by the emotional and symbolic universe surrounding her work, The Fridas is a vibrant and physically charged exploration of identity, pain, resilience, and transformation.

Rather than portraying Frida Kahlo biographically, Sofia Nappi approaches her as a symbolic figure—a multiplicity of emotional states, contradictions, desires, and wounds embodied through movement. The work unfolds as a kaleidoscopic landscape where fragility coexists with strength, irony with melancholy, and tenderness with rage.

The choreography combines explosive physicality with moments of stillness and intimacy, creating a dynamic tension between collective rhythm and individual expression. Through intricate partnering, fluid transitions, and highly musical movement, the performers continuously shift between unity and fragmentation.

Music, gesture, and theatrical imagery intertwine to construct a universe that is playful, surreal, and deeply human. In The Fridas, the body becomes a territory of memory and reinvention—a place where suffering is transformed into vitality, and where vulnerability emerges as a form of power.
