PRISMA Lab Youth
x Yvann Alexandre’s

From the beginning, Yvann Alexandre’s creative forces emerge from human encounters. He begins his creative processes with interpretations, then progresses to writing a work. He is a choreographer who looks at the world, directly through dance, who accurately maps the echo of the world within him, with attention, delicacy, absorbing passing fluctuations, random events; for him, tomorrow is above all a choreography that is still ignored.

With a particular attachment to the writing of movement and faithfulness to the notion of line, he has established himself as a representative of abstract dance. His gestures, very precise, are full of details and are organized like a calligraphy of the intimate. His way of composing scores with personal notation is now freed from its own codes, in favor of direct interaction with performers.

Born in La Roche-Sur-Yon in 1976, Yvann Alexandre begins his career in the Amicale Laïque and at the conservatory of his hometown, and then at that of La Rochelle. He continues his career in Montpellier within Epsedanse, and at the same time attends the CCN of Montpellier, newly directed by Mathilde Monnier. At the age of sixteen, he composes his first pieces and creates his company in Montpellier (1993).

He made his first creation for Hivernales d’Avignon and Montpellier Danse. In addition to his creations, which have been presented on numerous prestigious stages and festivals in France and abroad, he has also been a guest of the National Conservatories of Paris and Lyon, Quebec and Montreal, the National Choreographic Centre of Nancy and the Tanzcompagnie du Nord-West in Germany.

In parallel to his work as a creator, he is also the artistic director of the Théâtre Francine Vasse in Nantes, with an innovative project that starts with the interpretation of the dance piece, and ends with a written work [dramaturgy]: “Les Laboratoires Vivants” (Live Laboratories).

A Knight of Arts and Letters [a distinction awarded by the French Ministry of Culture], Yvann Alexandre is also the Deputy Administrator of Dance at the SACD.

Circulations

Imagined by the choreographer, Circulations is a creation that embraces space and unfolds like infinite vines.

Everything is air and complicity among the performers.

The performers arrive from afar and take root—whether in solos, duets, or in the strength of the collective. The electricity of the engine.
Everything is ephemeral, and their radiant steps already drift away. It was only a moment.

At the same time, alongside more traditional productions, Circulations brings together professional artists and/or young dancers in ephemeral creations.

It is an instinctive and generous act of immense freedom, offered to the audience in close human and artistic proximity.

The production of Circulations unfolds internationally—in countries such as Nicaragua, Madagascar, and Panama—as well as within cultural action projects in France. In each territory it reinvents itself through new collaborations and partners.
