PROGRAM 2026
       OPEN CALLS        WORKSHOPS        TICKETS

Marcat DanceMarcat Dance is the artistic home of the award-winning Spanish choreographer Mario Bermúdez Gil and the American dancer Catherine Coury, co-founder of the company. Their base is located in the rural surroundings of Vilches, where the company develops each creation through creativity and movement, while maintaining another fundamental pillar: the training programs they offer around the world. Marcat Dance believes in the power of imagination, in committing to creativity, and in the continuous exploration of the body’s dynamics. The group connects with the human spirit and finds inspiration in different cultures, rituals, and landscapes across the world.

Since its founding in 2016, the company has performed and shared its teaching internationally throughout the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. They have appeared at festivals such as Madrid en Danza, Anfitrión, and Festival Internacional de Danza de Itálica (Spain), Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival (United States), Vanguard Body Festival (China), Yokohama Collection (Japan), and the Centro de Coreografía La Licorera de Cali, among others.

Their many productions have received numerous awards, including “Best Show of the Year” at the Premios Lorca (2023 and 2022) and the Premios PAD (2021 and 2020), “Best Original Music” (Premios PAD 2020), “Best Male and Female Performance” (Premios Lorca 2023 and 2022; Premios PAD 2021), and “Best Choreography” at the Premios Escenarios de Sevilla (2019). They were also finalists in three categories of the Premios Max in 2020 and 2023. Between 2016 and 2019, the company also received First Prize for Choreography in four international choreography competitions.

In addition to his work with Marcat Dance, Mario Bermúdez Gil has been invited as a guest choreographer for major international companies such as the Compañía Nacional de Danza, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Hung Dance, Nuovo Balletto di Toscana, and the National Dance Company Wales.

Since 2020, they have also promoted the creation of the Vildanza Festival and have taken on the artistic direction of this event, held every summer in Vilches (Jaén), where they present international contemporary dance performances.

El Bosque
I walk toward the forest. I will lose my head in order to find my being.

Listening is probably the most treacherous of all our faculties. While the things we can see and touch present themselves as certainty, as something present from which we construct our reality, sound is something fleeting and transient, a trace of something distant. Entering a forest is to confront this uncertainty, to engage with a series of sounds that unsettle us because we do not know the origin of their source.
