Humankind has always felt the need to invent narratives and stories to fill the void of nothingness. Today, more than ever, people are trying and failing to make sense of the absurdity of their existence. Depression, alienation and fragmentation are flip sides of hyper-accelerated self-enhancement and excessive individualism. Miller de Nobili takes inspiration from Beckett’s Waiting for Godot to explore its possible reiterations in the context of modern society. Maybe Beckett’s character Estragon is right to assume that, when we see only darkness, we are not blind but looking into the future. But could we equally use this emptiness to pause and reflect together with the ones next to us? ‘There was still time’ explores how dance transmits ideas of suspense and absence. Can the disruptive power of waiting offer a moment to breathe in a world that rushes us through ever-changing types of empty content at an incredibly fast pace?
