Description
“The Poetics of the Body”

By Álvaro Morales Lifschitz

This workshop aims to share with participants the basic notions of physical creation based on play and the poetic observation of reality to transpose it onto the stage. We will work from the observation of nature, its elements and materials as provocations for the physical creation of images, atmospheres, and scenes. Art made by humans as a sounding board for our environment, not as an imitation of the other, but as a being in itself, using play as a basic element of all creation. The workshop will be an invitation to connect with our bodies through ingenuity, creativity and poetic observation, to find new stimuli that can serve as creative tools for us as performing artists in our own creative adventures.

  • SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4TH

DANAE & DIONYSIOS (GREECE): “ShapeShifting”  11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.

Aimed at intermediate and advanced dancers

Description
Danae and Dionysios aim, through a combination of various techniques, to challenge participants to gain better control of their bodies and minds. Exposing the body to sets of movements which focus on bringing it back to its past forms, they target a balance between our primal self and its evolution. As they play with various rhythmic patterns, they invite participants to be more aware of how they use these patterns, how they move in relation to them, and how they can experiment with them. Most importantly, in relation to this practice, Danae and Dionysios desire to foster a creative mind and motivate it to evolve in a conscious way. Due to present circumstances, they focus on acknowledging the current limitations and using them to produce something unprecedented for the body and mind.

CIE. TOULA LIMNAIOS (GERMANY): “Master Class”  10:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.

Aimed at intermediate and advanced dancers

Description
The body as a mediating element, the connection between Earth and sky.

A body work based on Release and Alexander technique, as well as a contemporarylanguage of movement and a floor-work method that has been developed over years, with a focus on relaxation and coordination between breathing and dynamics of movement. The impulse to move comes from the center, the source from which all energies flow. Through the conscious use of muscular relaxation, the body can rise without exertion; it can release and flow inner energies in order to create an “economics” of the body that strengthens the performer’s expression, brings the quality/dynamics of their movements into focus, and develops their inner musicality.

There are no “recipes” for choreographing. Even though a personal signature is

being developed over time, each piece remains a new challenge. Approaching

various subjects from different angles results in the search for an “original“

movement language in correspondence to the subject, in the search for adequate

compositional means needed to develop an inner logic of composition, and the

dramaturgically important inner “threads,“ as well as the search to convey one’s own ideas and vision, to give “worlds“ to others, and to communicate nonverbally.

The focus is on contemporary dance, dance as an expression, as non-verbal

communication, and a reflection of our era, our here and now…

Aimed at intermediate and advanced dancers

Description
The workshop demonstrates Hung Dance’s movement language technique, focusing on the dynamic and stationary space around the body. Setting out from a single point of movement, joints and muscles on the body are deconstructed, where only an individual part is allowed to move at a time while the rest of the body remains stationary. Furthermore, the round and twirling elements of Taiji become the force that gradually moves other muscles and joints on the body. This technique can be applied to any part of the body to create unique movement logic and mechanical body language that is both dynamic and stationary at the same time.
