ROSER LÓPEZ ESPINOSA | Cometa

About the piece

In a social context where individualism is increasingly privileged and where contact with others tends towards virtual, being together, sharing and the need to return to the collective become urgent. As neurologist, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Boris Cyrulnik put it, “Physical protection of distance is a real psychic aggression.” Through this duo, Sandra Geco wishes to recall the importance of these emotional demonstrations, of this non-verbal mode of communication where contact brings security, confidence, thus entering the present moment without a word.

In this hug story, the choreographic material is impregnated with this daily gesture to stage it and decline all its possibilities. It is a body-to-body where hearts connect side by side, for a heart-to-heart. The human being is a social creature, a being of affection who needs to connect with others to survive, develop and face adversities. A symbiotic relationship like the visible and invisible links present in nature and society is revealed. The energy of a hug then becomes one of the greatest supports to avoid falling, sinking, and gives the two interpreters the strength to get up and continue moving and living.

About the company

Sandra Geco has worked and collaborated with Wim Vandekeybus (Última Vez Company), José Montalvo (Théâtre National de Chaillot), Séverine Bidaud (6th Dimension Company), Amala Dianor and assists Sandrine Lescourant aka Mufasa (Kilaï Company) in her creation “Acoustique.” As a hybrid dancer and artist, she began dancing in Roanne (classical, jazz, mime and theater) and went on to train at the ESDC Rosella Hightower. She danced ballets from classical and neoclassical repertories, and attended the ABT (American Ballet Theater) for a Collegiate Summer Intensive. At the same time, she studied hip hop dance and trained in different street techniques. Passionate since a young age about photography and video, she has developed her audiovisual work and her artistic identity between surrealism and poetry. In 2019, all this led to the founding of her own company, “&cø”: a plural approach implementing both different aesthetics and different techniques. In her work, we can find a relationship to the image, to the theatricality of the body, and to the sensitive world of movement, of the moment and of nothing.

Edouard Gameiro starts circus in 2012 with Lin Yung Biau in the association EACS. He immediately developed an interest in working on duets, and specialized in hand-to-hand with the aerialist Aurélie Mignon. At the same time, he continued to train in various disciplines such as Chinese mast, corde lise and fabrics. He began his professional career at the Châtelet Theater in Olivier Fredj’s production of “Il Re Pastore,” then he met the XY company with whom he collaborated at the Firmin Gémier Theater – La Piscine, as well as with the Joly Viann duo, participating in the choreographic research for their new creation. Taking a liking to the stage, he is involved in many artistic projects, whether in the event industry or on other national stages such as the Opéra de Paris or the Écuries Royales de Chantilly. Currently he can be found in the show Le Voyage dans la Lune, which was created at the Opéra National de Montpellier.
